Floating the Rena River

Floating the Rena river.

The Rena River has many different characteristics and sections that are all worth fishing. There is a 25 km stretch that is floatable from a raft or drift boat, canoe or kayak. The river flow is quite steady, with it being considered a slower river, and not as fast as other rivers and the area. There are a few stretches with faster water and nice ruffles but still nothing that would be considered dangerous white water. Most of the year the river has good flows with higher water making it a very pleasant river to float and fish at the same time. Floating the river gives you a great opportunity to fish the water that you normally couldn’t get to from the bank wade fishing.

There are many great stretches the further down river you get with beautiful scenery. The further down you get there are less fish per kilometer but the option for pike fishing become more prevalent. There are two safe and easy places to take out once you’re further down the river before you reach the lower lake, Løpsjøen. The most popular place to start your float is just up from the fishcamp at the fishing access before you get into the fly only zone. There is no floating within the fly only zone so this is the obvious choice. The two places where you can take off the river at the end of your float are located on river left, on the left-hand side and directly before and after a bridge crossing the river making it a great indicator when and where to get ready to end your day.

There are few hazards in the river, but it’s always good to keep your eyes peeled for trees in the river or obstructions, rocks submerge trees and other Angler’s. While floating safety should always be the top priority. Life vests are required at all times while floating the river. We offer River Shuttle‘s at the Fishcamp so you can hit the water and leave your car for us to take care of. We can pick up your vehicle and drop it off at the takeout or even pick you up from the takeout and bring you back to the Fishcamp or your vehicle for a fee. Please contact the Fishcamp for boat rentals or River Shuttle‘s.
