Weather Conditions

Here in Norway things can change with a gust of wind. It’s recommended to always be ready and prepared for all weather conditions. Ranging from hot and humid to cold and rainy, there can even be the occasional snowstorm that rolls in so having a variety of clothing is always best. As they say in Norway, there’s no search thing as bad weather, just bad clothing choices. We recommend keeping an eye on the weather forecast for your time on the river and pack accordingly. And always bring your rain jacket just in case.

Gear & Tackle

We have a great variety of flies available from the Rena Fishcamp Fly Shop. We have Nymphs, DryFlies, Streamers, and all the terminal tackle you need to have a great day on the water. We also have rentals available for rods, reels, waders & boots, and nets and can customize a rental package based on your needs.

The lodge is a two hour drive north of Oslo. Its recomended you rent a car for your trip which can be done outside of the airport upon arrival. The Rena fish camp is found on Deset in Østerdalen (valley), 20 km north of Rena town on the FV 607. If you need further assistance with directions please don’t hesitate to reach out to a staff member and we will be happy to give directions.

What To Pack

Make sure to plan ahead before coming to the Rena Fishcamp. You will want to prepare for any and all conditions as they do change frequently here in Norway. If your trip date is approaching please reach out to the staff at the Rena Fishcamp to get the most up to date weather conditions.

Expectations

Fly fishing can be difficult at times and without having control of weather, water temp & flows, fish, and hatches you have to be ready to stick it out and make the best of the trip when things are not going well. Fly fishing takes patience, skill and a little bit of luck and as the saying goes, don’t let fishing get in the way of fishing. It’s not always about the fish but the process of fishing, the river and setting up your tackle, standing in the water and listening and observing nature.
